We are seeking a passionate and skilled Placemaking and Sustainability Project Manager to work on a dynamic range of projects aimed at enhancing the vibrancy and sustainability of the London Heritage Quarter (LHQ). Who We Are

LHQ is a collaborative alliance of four Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) that span Victoria, Victoria Westminster, Whitehall, and Northbank. Stretching from Belgravia to the Royal Courts of Justice, the area is home to iconic London landmarks such as Parliament Square and Trafalgar Square. LHQ encompasses the historic processional route through Central London and includes major transport hubs. It serves as a vibrant centre for corporate offices, government departments, world-class hospitality venues, and renowned cultural organisations.

Our mission is to improve the LHQ as a place to work, visit, and live. We do this by delivering diverse and creative programs that enhance and protect the environment, celebrate the area’s unique character, and foster connections within the community.

We deliver physical enhancements and operational initiatives across the placemaking and sustainability themes that are aligned to each BID’s 5-year business plan. Example projects include:

  • Street and highway enhancement schemes incorporating landscaping, traffic modelling, SuDS, and kerbside rationalisation
  • Walking, cycling, wayfinding, active travel and healthy streets
  • Greening including street planting and maintenance
  • Urban environment and user data analysis, surveying, and monitoring 

We are recruiting a Placemaking and Sustainability Project Manager to join our team and deliver an exciting programme of placemaking and sustainability projects. 

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead placemaking and sustainability projects from inception to delivery, including the curation and activation of spaces, air quality, wayfinding, lighting, and place management.
  • Collaborate closely with a wide range of partners and stakeholders, including BID levy payers, Westminster City Council, Transport for London, Places for London, Network Rail, building owners, developers, residential groups, and more.
  • Manage engagement and consultation processes on BID projects within the built environment, including steering and project groups, and responding to developer and policy consultations.
Our Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have multi-disciplinary skills, experience and passion for innovative placemaking, including:

  • A strong understanding excitement of public realm design principles and the RIBA Stages of Work.
  • Solid knowledge of sustainability initiatives, frameworks, and net-zero goals in urban contexts, along with an understanding of freight, servicing, and delivery challenges.
  • Experience in promoting active travel and implementing related initiatives.
  • Strong focus on outcomes and proven ability to plan, deliver, and evaluate complex projects, manage budgets, and oversee consultants.
  • Expertise in highways, public realm, and placemaking disciplines.
  • Experience working with multiple stakeholder groups to deliver projects.
  • Familiarity with BIDs – their purpose and legal context.
  • Experience in working on transformational public realm projects in both the public and private sectors is highly desirable.
  • Degree qualification and relevant professional accreditation.
