Professor Christopher Turner
Chief Executive

Economist and Information scientist, Chris worked initially at the British Institute of Management before moving into academic research and teaching and then becoming Chief Executive of British BIDs. Chris now focusses on BID research, business intelligence and local and central government relationships for Bb.

Chris is Business Development Director of the Winchester Business Improvement District and he successfully took the BID through its renewal votes in 2012 and 2017. He produces the annual National BID Survey, and is an assessor and teacher on the Certificate in BID Management.

He continues to work regularly in South East Asia, USA and Europe for the University of Winchester and is able to visit business groups and BIDs around the world.

Mel Richardson
Membership support

Mel Richardson has been involved with BIDs since 2006 when she started developing Cornwall BIDs. Mel has developed and supported seven BIDs through to successful ballots and is currently working on three BID renewals. She has supported BIDs at all levels from feasibility to ballot as well as providing advice on governance issues including auditing BIDs for the BB accreditation award. Mel also has a part time role managing Newham BID, a thriving business park on the edge of Truro City Centre in Cornwall. Mel works for British BIDs part time supporting members ensuring that they get the information, advice and good governance guidance they need to prosper

Maria Chapman-Beer
Policy Manager

Maria’s experience of working in BIDs over the past 13 years has enabled her to assist developing and existing BIDs with general enquiries, the practical aspects of running BIDs, BID processes and also with the BID regulations. In her work, Maria views many of the BID Business Plans and can be of assistance to members with advice on the Plans and meeting the National BID Criteria.

Maria also works on the MHCLG BID Loan Fund administered by British BIDs, assisting existing recipients through the BID development milestones and new applicants when applying for a loan.

Maria prides herself on being approachable and works closely with the team to provide a quality service to our members.

Drew Turner
Business Development Executive

Drew has nearly 10 years experience in account management and customer relations. His main focus with Bb is promoting the BID Academy, courses and membership requests. As the main point of contact, Drew is the eyes and ears for any concerns mounting and is on hand to assist. Attending courses himself, Drew feels relationship building goes a long way. Having a dedicated point of contact gives off a trusting good feel approach.

Ben Collins
Membership Services Manager

Ben is responsible for monitoring and reviewing the membership services that we provide as well as assisting BIDs with queries and supporting members on a daily basis. Ben has worked in BID management since 2005 and in town centre management before then. Ben leads on the portfolio of membership services for British BIDs as well as the annual National BIDs Conference. Ben is also the Ilford BID Manager.

Ben has a background of stakeholder management in achieving support during the planning of significant infrastructure projects and was also Brand Manager for one of the most decorated regional newspapers.

Emily assists the BID industry and our members with marketing and communications advice. On a daily basis, she comes across the good, the challenging and the exemplar work of BIDs. Whether you are a developing BID or heading into your renewal, Emily is on hand to provide advice on how you should communicate with your levy payers, what an engaging business plan entails, how to run your social media and create engaging content and much more. She also works closely alongside the membership services team to promote and communicate the services offered by British BIDs, with a focus on maintaining high standards to our members.

Fiona Wright
Director

Fiona has worked in place marketing for over 20 years. She previously worked on large-scale property development projects for a national property marketing agency. She brought this understanding of place across into the BID world in 2009.

Fiona is heavily involved at practitioner level as the Marketing Director for Ipswich Central. She has worked with and continues to work with numerous BIDs providing marketing and communication strategies both during BID terms and during ballots.

Paul Clement
Director

Paul has been a Director of British BIDs since 2013. Today, he primarily contributes to the training programme and to various guidance and policy papers, as well as providing technical support to developing, operating and renewing member BIDs. His enthusiasm has been the ways in which places adapt to remain relevant and he has always seen BIDs as an important mechanic within the wider place shaping arena.

When the all-important conference comes around, Abby is on hand to help members with their discount codes. She also administers the MHCLG BID Loan fund alongside Maria.
