Hi! Street Food Stories

Up and down England there are hundreds of incredible dishes being created on our high streets every day. Behind every dish is a unique story to uncover – the incredible history of the place where it’s made, the chefs who lovingly create it and the people who come together to enjoy it. We’ll inspire people to visit and try food on their high street by telling all these amazing stories.

From 5 August, Historic England is asking people across the nation to nominate their favourite high street eatery and share the story behind it by liking and commenting on Historic England’s Instagram post and tagging the local eatery. Nominations are open 5-21 August, after which the public will have the chance to vote for their favourite on Instagram. The aim is to help people rediscover high streets through celebrating the unique foods and the people, history and stories behind them that make local places special.

This is part of Historic England’s ongoing work to protect and promote the nation’s historic high streets and encourage people to reconnect with them.
