By Christopher Stille, Gala Lights Managing Director
This year sees Gala Lights mark a significant milestone - 25 years in the Christmas lighting industry.
The company was founded in 1994 as Christmas lights were moving away from traditional sockets and bulbs product, to LED garlands, and embracing the significant energy-savings this new technology represented. It led to us creating a series of 12m-high snowmen which each used 46,000 LEDs but required no more energy than a domestic hairdryer.
Gala Lights joined the global Leblanc Illuminations Group in 2009 and together we have gone from strength-to-strength. We now work with BIDs, towns and cities, as well as private businesses, properties and retail centres across the UK.
The industry continues to change with new technology enabling lights to deliver a snowfall effect, change colour, and include automated animation. Our focus remains on delivering quality product, good design and friendly service, which leads many customers to stay with us and recommend us to others.
Some of our most successful schemes currently include those for York BID and Brighton BID, where we have taken our design inspiration from the unique heritage, architecture and character of the surroundings and developed a bespoke scheme which enhances it.
I’d like to say thank you to everyone who has been with us over the last quarter-century, and welcome to those of you who are considering working with us in the future. We look forward to the next 25 years together.
