Wakefield Business Improvement District

Wakefield BID started in 2017 to bring in £1.5m of investment into the centre of the city and was successfully renewed into its second term in 2021. The current term is 2022-2027.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Wakefield BID Board are looking to recruit a new Chief Executive to lead the BID and deliver its ambitious business plan.

Role Overview

You will be responsible for leading and growing a small team to deliver the objectives in the business plan with an investment of over £220k pa. Working collaboratively, creating partnerships, and supporting the levy paying businesses, you will need to be nimble and adaptable to a variety of working environments. A person with a passion for place, strong commitment, and a desire to bring people together for collective good would be ideal for this role. The BID is still relatively new and there are many opportunities for a Chief Executive with flair and creativity to take Wakefield BID to the next level, creating new income steams and harnessing the enthusiasm of stakeholders.

Essential Requirements
  • An excellent communicator
  • Strong experience of managing and working to a board
  • Strong budget and project management skills
  • Ability to work flexibly to deliver the business plan
  • Strong leader who can galvanise stakeholders at all levels
  • Ability to develop staff and delegate effectively
  • Strong management skills in instructing third parties who work on behalf of the BID
  • A creative and thoughtful person, who plans well and is prepared to try new initiatives
  • A leader not a follower who has a proven history of success
  • An understanding of operational issues in a city centre, e.g. Crime Partnerships, running events, health & safety
  • An understanding of Wakefield, its' history, and the current opportunities
  • Previous experience of running a Business Improvement District or Place Partnership
  • Previous experience of running a renewal ballot
  • A professional BID or Place qualification
