Stoke-on-Trent City Centre Business Improvement District (BID) was established in 2018 to provide businesses with a voice on a local and national scale. Representing and funded by over 400 businesses, the BID organises and supports a range of city centre events, encourages inward investment, guides small & independent businesses and manages the day to day running of our city centre.

Purpose of the Role:

This is an exciting opportunity for a vibrant and creative individual to develop and take forward our marketing & communications strategy as our new Marketing Manager. We are looking for a capable, experienced and innovative individual, able to lead and maximise return on the diverse marketing opportunities available in this role.

The BID has an ambitious and varied business plan and this role will be able to build upon a strong platform of marketing tools already in place, in order to maximise our effectiveness through significant marketing, promotion and communications that will help contribute towards supporting the re-shaping of Stoke-on-Trent City Centre as a great place to visit, live, work and play.

A Business Improvement District (BID) is a business-led and business-funded body formed to improve a defined commercial area. BIDs empower businesses to decide and direct what we want for our area and ensure that they have a voice in issues affecting the area. BID levy money is ring-fenced for use only in the BID area. Activities that BIDs can deliver may focus on increasing footfall, improving staff retention, combating business crime or enhancing the look and feel of the trading area.

This position is permanent but please note that the BID is in its fifth year of its first five year term (running 1st November 2022 to 31st October 2023). Applicants should therefore be aware that whilst the expectation and indication is that the BID will be successful in securing a second five year term when it goes to ballot in June/July 2023, there is the possibility that this role could terminate on 31st October 2023).

The position will be a Savills Management Resources employee.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage & lead the marketing activities in the planning and development of BID marketing/communication strategies, events and promotions, and project manage our implementation of KPI management, including liaison with suppliers, stakeholders and others as required.
  • Maintain regular and suitable communication using the most relevant communication channels to the correct parties for each hereditament within the BID area.
  • Create and manage budgets to maximise communications opportunities to both BID stakeholders and consumers and liaise with the finance team and the BID Manager to remain on target and within budget.
  • Manage outputs of appropriate agencies to deliver the Company’s literature production, advertising and other marketing requirements.
  • Maximise promotions, events and activities via relevant social media channels engaging with appropriate levy payers, stakeholders and potential customers to maximise awareness and participation.
  • Liaise with the BID Manager and operations team to ensure joined up campaigns and activities to maximise levy payer benefits and assist with coordination, preparation and communication for events and conferences, attending where required.
  • Maintain and update the Stoke-on-Trent BID website as appropriate to enable levy payers and the public to access relevant information about Stoke-on-Trent BID and its activities.
  • Co-ordinate the collation and distribution of relevant management statistics.
  • Attend and service the relevant stakeholder meetings as required.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

Essential -

  • Experience in marketing with a track record of running campaigns and programmes.
  • Experience of media relations activity including building relationships with media outlets, writing press releases and responding to enquiries.
  • Outstanding communications and customer service skills.
  • Excellent copywriting skills.
  • Up to date knowledge of social media and its existing trends including how it can be used to build the project’s profile.
  • Content management experience.
  • Experience of developing and running websites ie. WordPress.
  • Proficient in ICT packages, word processing, email, internet use, spreadsheets, databases and digital communications platforms.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task whilst maintaining high standards.
  • Excellent prioritisation and time management skills.
  • Ability to work on own initiative, with communication of activities back to the line manager.
  • Ability to work with professionalism and integrity at all times.
  • Willingness and ability to follow operational procedures, as dictated by the Company.
  • Willingness to work flexibly including some out of core hours work.
  • A positive “can do” approach, the ability to be innovative, and flexibility to meet the demands of a changing environment.
