The Dorking Business Improvement District (BID) is seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to fill the role of Business Improvement District Manager.

As the Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the operations of the BID. You will be supported by an established communications, marketing and tech team with a proven track record in Dorking.

The ideal candidate will be a natural leader, possess excellent communication skills, and have a passion for fostering economic growth and vitality within Dorking.

Job Purpose

Manage the operational delivery and day to day activity of the Dorking BID five year business strategy for all businesses and their customers within the BID boundary. Reporting to the Board of Directors.


Commensurate upon experience; £45-£55,000 per annum.  

Working Relationship

A contract with a service company will be considered.

Full time employed with pension scheme, 20 days annual leave in addition to statutory Public Holidays, statutory sickness pay as well as the following:

  • Full Time – based on 37 Hours per week (some additional hours may be required to support events at weekends and Bank Holidays). Flexible hours considered.
  • Permanent subject to successful ballots to extend the Dorking BID every 5 years. Notice period is three months. Current BID term to November 2027.
  • A comprehensive induction programme will be provided including training in specific systems such as the Dorking BID database (BidBase) and associated systems  
  • Permanent offer will be subject to satisfactory completion of a 6 month probationary period.

Over 300 BIDs have been developed across the UK. The mission is to boost footfall, spend, dwell time and attract inward investment. 

The Dorking BID is becoming a powerful body and voice for our business community to shape our futures.

A BID is a business-led and business-funded partnership that works collaboratively to identify and fund projects, initiatives and events that are beneficial for its levy payers  

BID Objectives

The Dorking BID is managed by the BID Manager and voluntary Board of Directors who represent all of the business sectors in Dorking. The BID is a private, not-for-profit, independent company.

The BID Manager is responsible for supporting the BID in achieving the objectives in the BID business plan:

  • Support, promote and empower our existing businesses;
  • Focus our efforts on a few strategic events that will make a meaningful impact  
  • Attract new innovative businesses that complement our high street offering; and
  • Create a safe, welcoming environment that attracts inward investment and visitors  
Job Summary

To lead and manage the operational delivery of the BID projects, contracts and initiatives.  

  • Day to day management of the BID.
  • Provide support to the BID Chair and Directors in collaboration and with support from our Virtual Assistant.
  • Regular engagement with the Local Authorities and other Stakeholder groups. 
  • Regular liaison with Town Centre businesses.
  • Liaising with Mole Valley District Council regarding the collection of the BID Levy.  
  • Managing the procurement of services.  
Skills and Qualifications
  • Minimum five years business, Board, or non-profit experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and Powerpoint), databases/CRM systems and social media platforms – Wordpress experience an advantage.  
  • Multitask and prioritise in a dynamic work environment to tight deadlines.
  • Work as a team member with minimal supervision.  
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.  
  • Excellent project management and budget management skills.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with a diverse set of partners.  
  • Experience of dealing with the media and press would be desirable.
  • Experience in marketing or brand management would be desirable.
  • Knowledge of the local area.
